Question for student(s) with family

Could a current student with spouses (w or w/o children) talk about family life for SOMers. I have noted the section in this website about the Partners Club; how active is this club? Comment on your general impression of the club and life for students with families at SOM. Thanks so much!

Hi, I am a second year student (just beginning my second year) and entered this program with a spouse. My wife is now one of the leaders of the Partners club.

To be completely honest, I think my wife struggled a little bit in the beginning -- new city, new people, new job, husband in school, etc. However, family life at SOM is very strong and after the first couple of months she fell right into the routine. While I am not sure the exact percentage, there are quite a few students with spouses, fiances, children etc. Throughout this upcoming year the Partners club basically has an event planned every other week. However, the purpose of the Partners club is not to be the only outlet for families but rather a mechanism through which Partners can meet other Partners -- and generate friendships outside of the club. Last year numerous families created their own social groups - some were driven by playgroups for the kids and others were driven by common interests - that continued throughout the school year. There are definitely opportunities for families at SOM - of course, as a student it is quite demanding to balance all of the competing needs.
