Would you kindly tell me something about real estate focus in SOM?

I am one of the co-leaders of the real estate club and will be happy to answer you question.

Most people do not realize this but SOM is very strong for real estate. We have Goetzmann, Shiller and Gray who teach real state classes. Goetzmann’s Real Property class and Gray’s Commercial Real Estate classes are always oversubscribed. Robert Shiller is the creator of the S&P/ Case – Shiller housing index and has focused his research on the housing market. We have a small but dedicated base of alumni in real estate finance and development who are always willing to help students.

Hope this was helpful; let me know if you have any additional questions.

I am interested in real estate investment banking and working in real estate finance after graduation. It is good to hear that Yale is very strong in real estate. My reason for wanting to attend yale is due to the new curriculum and being strong in real estate makes Yale much more appealing.

In what type of events does the real estate club participate? Are there many real estate club members who go into investment banking?

The answers to the questions would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

My name is Chris Sanger and I am one of the current co-leaders of the Real Estate club. I also spent my summer doing investment banking for Merrill Lynch.

The activities of the club will vary, but you can count on having guest speakers from various industries come in to give speeches and meet with club members, social gatherings with alumni in either New York or on campus, and we work with the Career Development Office to present employment opportunities to club members.

We have numerous alum that join investment banks in their real estate groups. It is a very strong alumni network that is great at helping students get into the industry.

Hope that this helped.
Chris
