Does the program allow students to conduct an independent study during the second year ? If yes, what percentage of students participate in it ?

Yes the program allows for students to conduct independent study (even in first year!) and get credits for it. I dont know the exact number of students conducting the studies though.

For marketing, there are some independent studies organized by the YCCI (Yale Center for Customer Insights) where you get to work with real clients to solve real world problems. Some of the clients that students are working with include Sears Canada (including a trip to Toronto), Samsung, and Pepsi (Frito-Lay).

Hi,
I am a second year MBA student and was engaged in independent study during my past semester. Apart from me, there were two other students on this project where we worked with senior officials from BP plc (British Petroleum) to write a business case study regarding the company's recent investment into largest pipeline infrastructure project in the world. As part of the project, one of the students travelled to the country where project was implemented to interview regional CEO as well as finance director (both BP employees) whose comments were then included into the case. Upon completion of the case, we presented it to first years. It is so much fun where you do plenty of research, meet with industry practitioners, and later present to a wide group of people.
As far as numbers concerned, I am not sure whether there is a limit for students on engagement in independent studies. I think its more driven by the need for the study and once you can deliver a solid case for professor I would not expect any problems.
Best of luck,
Farid
