Hi everyone

I've been thinking about interviews and was hoping some of the current students could provide advice?

Beyond the normal questions like why mba, why yale, why now, are there any other types of questions? Also, does Yale play the same game as Columbia? Columbia I've heard only offers admits to those who they think will accept. Does Yale try to gauge your interest like that or are they solely trying to evaluate a candidate on their merits? I ask b/c I am torn between schools. One is my choice 1, the other my choice 1.0001. Very close call and if an adcom asked me on the spot if I would accept an offer right away (a game i've heard ibanks play but i'm not sure if adcom offices do) I'm not sure I could answer. I'd hate to be put on the spot like that.

Thanks!

Thanks for your query. I can't speak for the Admissions Committee, but I doubt that anyone expects you to have a perfect understanding of which school you wish to attend at this point, particularly since you probably haven't visited all of your top choices yet. You should hopefully have an idea of how Yale compares with other schools, but we do not require applicants to declare a binding intention to attend SOM. However, if you are absolutely certain that you want to attend SOM, I would mention this fact in your interview.

Best of luck!

Hi dreamer1979,

We do not offer admission only to candidates that we think will accept. You should definitely know what sets SOM apart from other MBA programs, and why SOM is right for you. As for being offered admission on the spot, that will never happen during an SOM interview. The interview is just one component of the application process.
