Hi All
I am from India and hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from an Indian B-School.
I want to know my chances of getting in to Yale SOM to do an MBA.
Will the fact that I already hold a PGDM (which may considered equal to an MBA), reduce my chances of going in for an MBA from Yale?
Hope to get a reply soon.
Regards
Akshay

Hi Akshay,

Since we do not accept 3 year undergraduate degrees from India; our Indian applicants are actually required to have completed some post graduate diploma. We will NOT hold this against you by any means during the admissions process.

Hi LMD

Thanks for replying.
One more thing I wanted to know is that how good are my chances with a low GMAt score of 640?
I had attended an event hosted by The MBA Tour in India recently. Representatives of some schools that participated responded to this same query of mine by telling me that even though the average GMAT score that they accept is higher they would consider my score as I already have a PG Diploma in management. So in a way they meant that my educational qualifications and my managerial experience will make up for my low score at the time of admissions.

Will Yale SOM also do this or do I need to take my GMAT again to try and get a better score to improve my chances?

thanks
Akshay

Hi Akshay,

It's very difficult for us to comment on your chances of admission without reviewing your entire application, since each application is reviewed holistically. Take a look at the student profile for the Class of 2008 - http://www.mba.yale.edu/MBA/students/profiles/class_statistics.shtml - to see where you fit as far as GMAT. You should decide whether or not you think it's worthwhile to retake it.

Excellent transcripts, from both undergrad and a post graduate diploma, can offset a lower GMAT score to some degree. However, you have to keep in mind that having a post graduate diploma will not necessarily distinguish you. As I said in my previous post, all applicants from India are required to complete a post graduate diploma if they have a 3 year undergrad degree.
