Hi,

In your opinion, while reviewing an applicant's profile, what would best offset a low undergrad GPA? (Specifically, one that is weak in Math.)

Obvious options seem to be:
- Solid GMAT Score <= shows improvement in Quant Analysis.
- Unique/Interesting work experience
- Character / Essays ...

What about enrolling locally and retaking a calc/statistics class? Would this be taken into account? Would it be a worthwhile use of my time?

Many schools claim they "look at the whole package" but realistically, you must have gating factors to get through the sheer volume of applications.

Appreciate the perspective.

Hi mytwohands –

We consider your entire application when making decisions, but also want to make sure you will succeed in a rigorous classroom environment. Along with the application components you listed above, it might be a good idea to take a class before (or during) the admissions process. More recent quantitative academic work can only strengthen your application and may offset a less than desirable undergraduate record. We generally recommend statistics, micro, or finance. I would also suggest addressing the low GPA in your optional essay.

Thanks,

mvitali
