Hi there,

My goal is to work for a BB bank after MBA. After checking SOM’s employment stat, I feel the placement in banking % is somewhat lower than that of comparable schools. Is it an area that career service is working on or I just misinterpreted data?

Hi yaleforme,

I just checked with the relationship manager in our career development office who handles finance/i-banking. Her response is listed below:

SOM has relationships with all of the BB (bulge bracket) investment banks—and they do recruit on campus. Additionally, we have relationships with many of the smaller and boutique IB. The placement % may be lower because of the number of students that go into investment banking is less than other typical finance schools. It isn’t a reflection of the number of students that apply and get offers. In fact, the smaller school is an advantage.

Hi yaleforme,

Some banks will come to campus with an idea of how many offers they want to make, but that number may be flexible based on the strength of the students they interview. These policies can vary between organizations.
As a Yale SOM student you will work closely with a member of our career development office who would be able to best advise you during job search.
