Hi.
I was wondering if there is a criterion on the salary of the applicants, for example, that if he doesn't make a certain salary at a certain age, Yale would not admit him/her? What if he has been working in the Civil Service in a underdeveloped country, wouldn't he be gravely affected by the criterion?

Also would age be an issue for a career in investment banking?

Next question: I graduated from a place where there is no GPA. Worst still, it has been 8 years sinec I graduated and the school apparently has not kept the archive of the marks dated then but I have my original transcripts and I don't think I should send them. Can I make a copy and send the copies over?

I passed a number of actuarial exams (SOA) recently to prove that I don't have problems with the Statistics and Probability, which I didn't do well in my undergraduate days. Would the admission committee look favorably at the actuarial exams passes and ignore the weakness in the undergraduate maths grades?

I have a GMAT verb score of 35. That was the lower end of the 80% range for verb. The Math part was ok. How else should I improve my application?

Jerry,

We don't have a salary cut-off, high or low. We are familiar with the types of salaries in different industries, and understand that working in a developing counrty most like translates into lower compensation.

I'm not sure what you mean by "age an issue for a career in investment banking". We have applicants from a large age range who want to pursue all kinds of careers.

Please email us at mba.admissions.edu with more detail about your transcript issues.

We would definitely look at passing any professional qualifying exams as a positive aspect of your application. It can favorably offset, but does not make us "ignore", your undergraduate grades.

As far as improving your application, I can't really comment, as I don't know your situation. Just be honest, clear, and thoughtful in your application.

What I meant was:
according to your knowledge, is age factor an important factor for a career in investment banking?

I would also like to know how much weightage does SOM attribute to undergraduate scores since mine was 8 years ago but the recent ones (SOA exams) + Gmat was good (more than 680).

Jerry,

If Investment Banking is a real interest in your professional career, then I suggest you contact a bank directly to find out just how important a factor age is. It is difficult for any MBA program to answer an industry question, particularly in regard to appropriate age for employment.

Your undergraduate performance along with your GMAT score are indications of your ability to meet the rigorous academic demands of the MBA program. We assign no specific weight to either; rather we way your performance in these two areas in the context of your entire application.
